Creativity Calling

There has been a great deal reported lately about the waning interest and profitability of such things as print publications and mailed greetings. The ever-increasing dependence on online resources has created a new culture that seems to veer away from paper. The more I read about the advent of a completely digital age the more I see an opportunity for stationery designers to embrace the challenge of attracting a new generation of buyers. For children raised on e-cards and e-mail, stationery will surely be a luxury that they just might come to treasure more than those pervasive Facebook posts. I'm particularly encouraged to see so many designers embracing such classic artistic mediums as water colors and hand-drawing. I believe that there can be no greater proponents of paper than the very people who so painstakingly provide beautiful offerings for current and future stationery lovers.

ART BEFORE (& DURING) FUNCTION

Age-old artistic practices get reinvented on modern stationery and paper products. Perhaps it’s the allure of having something custom-made that drives the surge in popularity of hand-drawn or painted styles. In a digital age where so much art can be reproduced through computer programs, it’s a refreshing trend to see that hand-made illustrations still are a strong niche for sales in stationery.
